What posting attribution to Slack reveals about a team: The first month of replies to a shared measurement post is a diagnostic on the team. Four patterns, and what each predicts about whether the practice survives.

The attribution problem
One sale. Four channels. 400% credit claimed.
Reported revenue: €400 · Actual revenue: €100 · Gap: €300
The replies to your first month of shared measurement posts are a better diagnostic than the numbers in them. Four patterns recur, and each one predicts something about whether the practice will survive.
The four patterns
| Reply pattern | What it means | What happens next |
|---|---|---|
| Questions about method | The team is engaging | The practice sticks |
| Silence | The format is wrong, or nobody owns a decision | Muted within six weeks |
| Defensive explanations per channel | It reads as a scoreboard | Numbers get managed rather than used |
| Requests for more granularity | Interest, but the wrong kind | Scope creep, then abandonment |
Silence is the most common and the most fixable
Silence rarely means disagreement. It usually means the post did not ask anything. A table of numbers with no question attached gives nobody a reason to respond, and once nobody responds twice, the channel is background.
The fix is a decision prompt at the end of every post: which channel should we hold steady, is anyone against testing this one, what would change your view. That is covered in what to post and what to skip.
Defensiveness tells you the framing failed
If each channel owner responds explaining their own line, the post is being read as a performance review. That is a framing problem, not a people problem, and it is fixable by moving to portfolio framing and including channels nobody owns. The dynamics are in what an attribution channel does to a team.
Left unaddressed it is genuinely damaging, because people will start optimising for the visible number, and the visible number is not the business.
The granularity request is a trap
"Can we break this down by campaign" sounds like engagement and usually ends the practice. Below channel level, most brands do not have enough spend variation for anything to resolve, so the answer is a table of wide intervals that looks like the tool failed.
The honest response is to explain the measurable floor and offer a test instead. The arithmetic is in the measurability floor.
Questions about method are the good sign
When someone asks what the design label means, or why one interval is wider than another, the practice is working. That question is the beginning of a team that can weigh evidence rather than accept or reject numbers wholesale.
Answer it properly and in the channel. The material is on how it works and in why vendors should explain methodology openly.
What to do with the diagnostic
Run it deliberately. Post by hand for four cycles, note which pattern you are getting, and fix the format before automating anything. Building a pipe to deliver a post nobody replies to is the most common way this project fails.
The read itself is €99 once on a Google Analytics export at Causality Engine, refundable if it does not move a budget decision, with API keys and MCP on Pro at €299 a month for when the format is proven. The interactive demo shows the output first, with no signup.
