Choose by the job, not the brand: tracking paths, running experiments, modelling spend, or reading what each channel caused. Start with what you already have. Shopify's marketing reports offer five attribution models, including an any click model that Shopify says "allocates more credit than orders you've received", which makes it a tool for reconciling what each channel claims. The entries below list only what vendors publish, as read on the dates shown, and they are not ranked.

GA4 is free and Shopify's marketing reports are included with Shopify. GA4 offers data-driven, paid and organic last click, and Google paid channels last click; Shopify offers last non-direct click, last click, first click, any click and linear. Both describe credit along logged visits, which answers "where did the order come from?" and leaves "would it have happened anyway?" open.

Which tools track paths?

These log visits on a pixel or script and credit touchpoints along a path:

  • Triple Whale: a Shopify-native dashboard with pixel-based multi-touch attribution. It has a free plan for smaller stores and paid tiers priced on annual GMV; its pricing page blocks automated reads, so no paid figure is quoted here.
  • Northbeam: a tracking script with managed onboarding. Starter is from $1,500 and Professional from $3,500 a month, priced on pageviews, with Growth and Enterprise quoted; Starter is month-to-month, while Professional and Enterprise are annual terms (northbeam.io/pricing, as read on 2026-09-08).
  • Polar Analytics: a BI platform whose attribution runs on its own first-party pixel, which does not work retroactively and needs about two weeks of active tracking, per its help center. The Shopify App Store lists Core from $750 a month, priced on online GMV (apps.shopify.com/polar-analytics, as read on 2026-09-26).
  • Wicked Reports: click-based attribution on a pixel, tiered by annual revenue from $499 to $999 a month, with Enterprise from $4,999 (wickedreports.com/pricing, as read on 2026-09-08).

Which tools run experiments?

These compare regions or audiences that saw your ads with ones that didn't. Experiments isolate the effect of the ads and are data-hungry: Lewis and Rao's 25 field experiments with major US retailers and brokerages put the median confidence interval on return on investment at over 100 percentage points wide, and informative experiments can easily require more than 10 million person-weeks (Quarterly Journal of Economics, 2015).

  • Haus: geo experiments, with Causal Attribution and Causal MMM calibrated on them. It lists no price, each of its four plans starts with a demo, and Basics runs geo tests in the US only (haus.io/pricing, as read on 2026-09-26). By its own guidance a test runs 2 or 3 weeks for demand capture such as search and 6-8 weeks for Meta reach campaigns.
  • Measured and Rockerbox: Measured does geo-based incrementality testing; Rockerbox adds control-group incrementality tests to multi-touch attribution and mix modelling. Both are enterprise products with no public price.
  • Google Conversion Lift and GeoLift: Conversion Lift compares a treatment group that sees your ads with a control group that doesn't, and Google says it isn't available for all Google Ads accounts. GeoLift, from Meta Open Source, is an open-source solution for calculating lift at a geo level; its page says it is not a Meta product and is for research purposes only.

Which tools model spend?

These read aggregated spend and sales by week rather than individual visits:

  • Recast: Bayesian marketing mix modelling, quote-based, with no public pricing page.
  • Prescient AI: machine-learning marketing mix modelling in SMB, Growth and Enterprise tiers by business size, adjusted for the number of sales channels, on annual contracts (prescientai.com/pricing, as read on 2026-09-26).
  • Meridian and Robyn: open-source mix models from Google and Meta. Meridian's guidance is a minimum of two years of weekly data for a geo-level model and three years for a national one; Robyn's guide says two years of weekly data, and Robyn calls itself experimental.

How do you test a shortlist before a demo?

This page cites no independent accuracy test of any entry above, so the check is yours to run. Take your last three budget decisions and label each with the job whose output would have changed it. The job that comes up most is the one to buy first. Pass: each decision has one job and you can name the file or test that job needs. Fail: you can't say what a tool's number would have changed, so no tool will fix it. Then, before paying, compare a trial's first-month orders with your Shopify orders for the same dates; a gap you can explain passes.

Is there a tool that reads what each channel caused from history you already have?

Causality Engine reads one file, the Attribution paths export from GA4 as a CSV, and shows what each channel caused next to what last-click gave it, with Direct split back to the channels that sent those buyers, a data-health score from 0 to 100 and a next step for every channel. A read takes 1 to 2 minutes after upload and costs €99 once, excluding VAT, refundable within 30 days, no questions asked; Pro is €299 a month. The read is observational, so it runs no experiment and takes no spend data; it works on GA4's channel groups rather than campaigns; and direct connections to ad platforms are on the roadmap, not live.

Frequently asked questions

  • What is the best attribution tool for a Shopify store?
It depends on the job. GA4 and Shopify's reports come first. Then add a pixel-based tool to track paths, an experiment platform to test cause, a mix model for weekly budgets, or a read of your GA4 export for what each channel caused.
  • Do I need a pixel to measure attribution?
Not for every job. Path-tracking tools such as Triple Whale, Northbeam, Polar Analytics and Wicked Reports rely on a pixel or script, while experiment platforms and mix models compare regions or aggregated weekly data. A GA4 export needs no pixel.
  • Are there free attribution tools for ecommerce?
Yes. GA4 is free, Shopify's marketing reports are included with Shopify, and Google's Meridian, Meta's Robyn and Meta's GeoLift are open-source tools. They still need someone to run them, and every tool's numbers should be checked against your orders.
