What are the Best Attribution Tools for Shopify?
Meta Ads Manager reports ROAS on the purchases it credits to its own ads, counting 7 days after a click and 1 day after a view by default, and Google Ads does the same for its own. Server-side trackers such as Elevar and WeTracked recover the events those numbers rest on; attribution platforms such as Triple Whale and Northbeam spread the credit with a multi-touch model. A causal read, such as Causality Engine's causal inference on a GA4 export, shows what each channel caused instead, which you set against your own spend.
The Problem with Traditional Attribution
Most attribution tools assign credit to the touchpoints they can see, by a rule or a model, and ROAS inherits whatever that credit gets wrong: a channel that catches demand you'd have had anyway still shows a high ROAS. Every platform grades its own homework, too.
Check it for free: put last week's Meta- and Google-reported purchases next to your Shopify orders for the same week, and track MER, total revenue over total ad spend, month by month. If platform ROAS climbs while MER doesn't, the extra credit isn't extra sales.

Enter Causality Engine
Causality Engine applies causal inference to your GA4 export: it estimates what each marketing channel caused, with Direct split back to the channels that sent those buyers, and sets that next to last-click rebuilt from the same export. It does not report ROAS itself, because the read takes no spend data: set what each channel caused against your own spend figures. It works on GA4's channel groups rather than campaigns, it does not connect to ad platforms today, and a read costs €99 once; Pro is €299 a month.

Key Features
What Each Channel Caused: Each channel's share of the credit once Direct is split back to the channels that sent those buyers.
A Next Step per Channel: Raise, cut or hold, or fix tagging first, and how to test it: change spend a little in one region, then compare revenue.
Paths to Purchase: The common converting paths in the customer journey, from GA4 and added up across buyers.
Receipts: Every number checks against your GA4 export, recomputed in your browser.

Frequently asked questions
What is marketing attribution?
Marketing attribution is the process of identifying which marketing channels and touchpoints are responsible for driving conversions and sales. Why is causal inference important for attribution?
Because a channel can sit in many buyers' paths without causing their purchases. Causal inference estimates what would have happened without the channel, which is the number a budget decision needs. How is Causality Engine different from other attribution tools?
Causality Engine runs causal inference on a GA4 export and shows what each channel caused next to what last-click gave it, with a data-health score and a next step for every channel, while rule-based models give the credit to the first or last touch.
