What looks like wasted ad spend but is not
Four patterns that read as a failing channel and are not. Three of them are properties of the measurement rather than of the channel at all.

Run the numbers for your store: the free break-even ROAS calculator, or the free wasted ad spend calculator.
Four patterns read as a failing channel and are not, and three of them are properties of the measurement rather than the channel.
The four
| Pattern | What it actually is |
|---|---|
| No estimate returned | Spend below the level any method can resolve |
| Wide interval spanning break-even | An unresolved read, not a weak channel |
| Declining causal estimate with flat spend | Sometimes real; check coverage first |
No estimate
The first reaction is that the tool failed. It is the opposite: a channel spending a small fraction of your budget cannot have its effect separated from ordinary week-to-week variation, and a method that returns a confident number anyway is filling in.
The decision it points at is a real one: fund the channel to a level where it becomes readable, or run it on stated judgement and record that as the reason. Arithmetic in the measurability floor.
The wide interval
An interval spanning break-even means the window could not resolve this channel, usually because spend was flat or the period was short. Cutting on it is cutting on the absence of evidence, which is the mistake in the cost of cutting the wrong channel.
The channel the platform cannot see
Email, organic social and affiliate generate no ad platform claim, so any view assembled from platform reporting shows them as small by construction. Judging them on platform figures is judging them on a number that structurally cannot include them.
The declining estimate
The only one of the four that is sometimes real. Before concluding the channel is decaying, check whether coverage moved at the same time. Coverage and estimates moving together usually indicates a collection change rather than a marketing one: a consent banner update, a tag misfiring, an app stripping referrers. The triage order is in what a real-time alert is actually detecting.
If coverage held steady and the decline persists across several reads with unchanged spend, that is worth investigating properly.
Why these three misreads persist
Because all three look identical to a weak channel in a ranked table of point estimates. The fields that distinguish them, the interval, the coverage and the unmeasurable label, are exactly the fields most interfaces omit. That is the practical argument for demanding them, made in what an attribution API returns that dashboards hide.
What our read returns
Every channel gets a data-health score from 0 to 100 that grades the read, not the channel, and a next step: raise, cut or hold, or fix tagging first. From a Google Analytics export at €99 for a first read, refundable within 30 days, no questions asked.

Frequently asked questions
My tool returned no number for a channel. Is it broken?
A channel spending a small share of your budget cannot have its effect separated from ordinary variation, so declining to score it is the honest behaviour. A confident figure there would be filled in rather than measured.Does a wide confidence interval mean a channel is weak?
No, it means the window could not resolve it, usually because spend was flat or the period too short. Cutting on it removes a channel on the absence of evidence rather than evidence of absence. Why does email look weak in platform-based reporting?
Because email generates no ad platform claim, so any view assembled from platform figures excludes it by construction. Judging it on those numbers judges it on a metric that structurally cannot include it.
