Attribution Roi For Skincare Brands
You can't scale a multi-million euro business on guesswork. It's time for a more rigorous, data-driven approach.
The High Cost of Inaccurate Attribution for Research Brands
Let's be direct. Every decision to scale a campaign, cut a channel, or allocate budget is based on data. If that data is wrong, your decisions are wrong.
Consider this formula:
Wasted Ad Spend = Total Ad Spend * (1 - True ROAS / Reported ROAS)
If a platform reports a 4.0x ROAS but the true, incremental ROAS is only 2.5x, you are systematically over-investing. For a brand spending 150,000 EUR/month, that discrepancy can easily translate to over 50,000 EUR in wasted spend every single month.
Common Attribution Pitfalls for Research Marketers
Over-crediting branded search: Last-click models love to give credit to branded search. But did that search campaign create the demand, or just harvest it?
Ignoring channel cannibalization: Is your new TikTok campaign driving new customers, or just stealing sales that would have happened anyway through your Meta retargeting?
The Retargeting Trap: Retargeting always looks good on paper. But how much of that is incremental lift versus capturing users who were already going to convert?
Let's compare the old way with the new way. Most attribution tools, including the native dashboards in Google and Meta, are based on correlation.

| Methodology | Correlation-based (Heuristics, rules) | Causation-based |

- AttributionAttribution identifies user actions that contribute to a desired outcome and assigns value to each. It reveals which marketing touchpoints drive conversions.
- Causal InferenceCausal inference is the set of methods for estimating how much an outcome changes because of a cause, rather than alongside it. It works by comparing what happened with an estimate of what would have happened without the cause.
- CausalityCausality is the relationship where one event directly causes another, essential for identifying specific actions that drive desired outcomes in marketing.
- CausationCausation is the relationship where a change in one variable directly causes a change in another.
- CorrelationCorrelation is a statistical measure showing a relationship between variables; it does not imply causation.
- DashboardsDashboards are graphical user interfaces that provide at-a-glance views of key performance indicators (KPIs). They monitor campaign performance and visualize attribution insights.
- Marketing AttributionMarketing attribution assigns credit to marketing touchpoints that contribute to a conversion or sale. Causal inference enhances attribution models by identifying true cause-effect relationships.
- RetargetingRetargeting is online advertising that targets users who have previously interacted with your website or content. Attribution analysis shows the causal role of retargeting in driving conversions and improving ad spend.
